Reminder alert! Driving tired can be as dangerous as driving drunk. One Georgia man recently learned that the hard way after falling asleep at the wheel. He woke up confused and then realized that he hit a police truck.

Georgia man falls asleep behind the wheel and hits police truck

I don’t know much about Twiggs County, Georgia but it must be a little boring. A driver fell asleep behind the wheel around 11:00 PM on Highway 96 and had a rude awakening. He slammed into a police officer that was patrolling the area.

According to WSBTV, the driver exited Interstate 16 westbound on the Exit 24 ramp, ran a stop sign, and slammed into a police truck. The driver of the Yukon woke up unaware of his surroundings.

The hood of the Ford F-150 police inceptor was smashed up pretty badly. The driver of the GMC SUV and a female passenger were taken to a local hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

Luckily, the police officer wasn’t injured. The names of the driver and his passenger haven’t been released and it’s unclear if they will face any charges.

I’d like to see a toxicology report. However, keep in mind that driving tired is extremely dangerous. Deputies shared that you should pull over if you’re feeling sleepy. Also, if you have a licensed passenger, you can ask them to take over.

Officers continued to explain that drowsy driving is very serious and can lead to impaired judgment and can increase the risk of crashing. It’s comparable to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
