For reasons that later became obvious, a 27-year-old man in Quincy, Illinois, left his Dodge Challenger Hellcat on a set of railroad tracks early Sunday morning. Luckily, no one was injured when the oncoming freight train destroyed the car.

Video of the impact captured by Virtual Railfan, a network of over 100 cameras placed at railroad stations around the world, shows the Dodge Challenger Hellcat driving up to the train tracks. The footage reveals that the driver thought the tracks were a road and began driving down them, only to get stuck.

The driver can be heard revving the engine, unsuccessfully trying to break the car loose. One person exits through the passenger-side door while the driver continues pressing the gas repeatedly.

A second person then appears from off-camera in the video and tries to offer assistance. Then a third person appears.

Shortly thereafter, a train whistle sounds. Then the railroad crossing lights kick on behind the Challenger. That is when the people outside the vehicle yell at the driver, urging him to get out of the car. After finally exiting the vehicle, the train arrives and slams into the car, pushing it down the tracks.

According to Quincy Police, the car was shoved approximately 300 feet before the train came to a halt. The police cited the driver for DUI, improper lane usage, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
