The least reliable full-size truck is still a best seller
Can you guess which full-size truck ranks as the least reliable model you can buy? I’ll give you a few hints. This truck has a reputation for being American and consistently dominates with the most sales.
Which full-size truck is the most unreliable?
Drum roll, please! The least reliable full-size truck is the Ford F-150. Are you surprised? Perhaps reliability scores aren’t as important to most drivers as expected.
According to J.D.Power, the F-150 has a reliability score of 78 out of 100, which isn’t bad. That’s an average score. Anything between 70 to 80 is average, while scores between 81 to 90 are above average. Then anything between 91 and 100 is best.
The Ram 1500 has a score of 89 out of 100, which is shockingly high. Next, the second best selling truck, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 rings in with a respectable 84. Also the Toyota Tundra currently has a score of 82.
With the recent engine recalls that the Tundra has faced, I didn’t expect it to outrank the F-150. However, Ford trucks aren’t exactly known for being recall-free.
The scores are based on feedback from actual drivers who have owned these trucks after 24 to 36 months of ownership. Surveys are sent out, allowing drivers to report any trouble that they may have faced, from paint issues to engine trouble, transmission failure, and more.
Despite being the most unreliable full-size truck, the F-150 can still make it between 200,000 to 300,000 miles. Some examples even surpass 400,000 miles. The key to longevity is regular care and routine maintenance.
