A Dallas-area truck owner and TikToker (@bdogshouse1) thought he’d played it safe: parked his twin-turbo Ford F-150 Raptor Gen 2 way in the back of a Kroger grocery store lot, away from the pre-storm shopping rush. He returned to find his driver-side exhaust shoved in—and no note. Hit-and-runs sting, but they’re part of a broader pattern that comes around every time dangerous weather approaches.

“You wanna know what pisses me off?” he said to start the video. “I’m at the grocery store right now. You see, it’s way over there. And, parked out here in the middle of nowhere. Guess what happens? Let me show you.

He walked around to the back of his Raptor. He shows the passenger-side exhaust as the correct length. But he took a step to the other side, and the exhaust pipe was clearly mashed in. It was obvious the truck had been hit, despite the ample room in his area of the lot.

“Looks like I had a car go up underneath me and not leave any info. Great.”

People Have No Common Courtesy At Kroger

People in the comments had jokes. “I bet it was a Nissan Altima,” one person wrote. He responded, “It’s always the Altima.”

“That’s funny, the one time you really need that camera recording in the back of your truck,” a person said. The commenter’s joke is related to the fact that this TikToker makes the bulk of his content with his mounted 360-degree camera.

“People have no common courtesy anymore,” said another commenter.

Now, the main point here comes from one person’s joke about a particular U.S. senator based in the Lone Star state: “Ted Cruz left the state … it’s probably going to be a big storm lol.”

The Incoming Storm Hitting Texas

One important part of this is why he was at the store in the first place. This video was made days before a potentially historic ice storm is set to slam into the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.

The usual pre-storm grocery store scramble typically creates conditions for these incidents—crowded lots, distracted drivers, everyone in a hurry. As stated and shown in the video, there was plenty of room where he was parked.

Without video, it’s impossible to know the situation. But given the number of cars in the lot, how far he had to park, and his subsequent video detailing the lack of product in Kroger, we know that person was likely in a hurry, preparing for the storm.

FOX 4 forecasters have warned that temperatures might stay below freezing until Tuesday afternoon. As of the writing of this article, rain is falling in Dallas-Fort Worth and will continue. This means hazardous travel conditions could persist for more than 72 hours.

Accumulating ice from freezing rain will occur before a transition to sleet and snow from Friday (January 23) through Saturday (January 24). There will be icy roads, trees, and power lines, with much of the area expected to experience a quarter to a 1/2 inch of ice.

Even with the brining and salting of roads, TxDOT urged people to avoid the “High Five” roadways in the area and major interchanges.

How Many Car Accidents Occur In Parking Lots?

Lower speeds don’t guarantee safety for cars or pedestrians walking the lots. Per the National Safety Council, hundreds of deaths and thousands are injured. Over over 50,000 crashes occur in parking lots each year. Parking lot or garage accidents account for 1 in 5 collisions.

Why? Usually, it is distracted drivers and pedestrians, or reduced visibility. However, researchers have found that drivers mentally “switch off” when they enter a lot, assuming they don’t need to pay as much attention. An NSC poll found that most drivers (66%) admitted to making phone calls while driving through parking lots, and 56% admitted to texting.

In other words, neither you nor your car is particularly “safe” in a parking lot.
