Kris Jenner explains why your car’s interior might be ruining your shot at success
You may or may not be a fan of the Kardashians, but there’s no denying their entrepreneurial triumphs. From social media and marketing to fashion, beauty, and by now, philanthropy, they’ve made their mark. Their $200 million net worth matriarch, Kris Jenner, started out as a humble flight attendant. Fast forward to pop culture and business icon status, and she has some advice for people looking to aim for the stars. Interestingly, it starts with your car.
Clean is free
Kris Jenner recently appeared on Phoebe Gates’ and Sophia Kianni’s show, “The Burnouts with Phoebe & Sophia.” If the last name “Gates” sounds familiar, that’s because Phoebe is Bill and Melinda Gates’ daughter.
During her interview, Jenner told the hosts that her friend once FaceTimed her and asked, spontaneously, for Jenner to give a group of teens some sort of tip that might help them succeed in life. Her answer surprised the hosts: “Keep your car clean.”
She described a bad example, complete with mushed fries and last week’s clothes.
“I don’t care what kind of a car it is,” she says. Case in point: Carl Lagerfeld once said something along the lines of “When women start wearing sweatpants, it means they’ve given up.” Well, 30 years later, Jenner says, “We’re selling sweatpants now.” As we all know, the Kardashians nearly rule the athleisure industry.
Kris Jenner recalls her own first car, a cheap red Mazda hatchback. “And I loved this car…I used to treat this car like it was my most prized possession.”
She says she washed it once or twice a week herself. She vacuumed it out constantly. “The car was perfect…the carpets were always clean.”
Jenner thinks keeping your car fresh, no matter the make and model, is a huge green flag to employers. “I wish that it was legal if I was interviewing somebody to have somebody sneak down and go look in the inside of the car.” She says it represents organizational skills and discipline.
Kris Jenner says to keep it together, including your car
Beyond the professional look, keeping your car clean goes even further, she explains. “Just the way that you feel about yourself,” including how you present yourself to the world.
Jenner recounts that while her mother, who worked several jobs, and grandmother, who worked until she was 80 years old, might not have had a limitless shopping budget, they were always fashionable. Even at 92, her mom wakes up every day and picks out a cute outfit from head to toe.
Kris Jenner isn’t wrong. There’s a scientifically proven connection between cleanliness and mental health. Verywell Mind shared, “Evidence suggests that having a messy, cluttered environment can create stress and interfere with your ability to concentrate, at least for some people. The actual act of cleaning and decluttering can boost your mood, help you move your body more, improve focus, and help you feel more in control of your surroundings.”
