Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Kiefer Sutherland, full name Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland, and charged him with physically assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver. The incident took place at Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood on Monday morning at around 12:15 a.m.

Sutherland, the son of actor Donald Sutherland and star of such films as The Lost Boys and Young Guns, and the TV show 24, was booked into jail a little after 4 a.m. on suspicion of making felony criminal threats.

According to Los Angeles Police Officer Kevin Terzes, “The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim.”

Why did the Los Angeles police arrest Kiefer Sutherland?

A source close to the investigation spoke to NBC News about the incident. The altercation allegedly occurred after the driver repeatedly refused to let Sutherland cancel the ride and get out. The ride-share driver was the one who called the police. The alleged victim reportedly didn’t sustain any injuries that required medical treatment at the scene.

Sutherland reportedly stayed at the scene and was cooperative with authorities. A judge set his bail at $50,000, and he bonded out around 11 a.m. on Monday. The court scheduled the Emmy-winning actor to appear on Feb. 2.
