Karen Read’s SUV quickly reversed the night a cop was murdered
43-year-old Karen Reed of Manisfield is accused of hitting her boyfriend, John O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV during a snowstorm outside of her home. The Boston police officer’s body was left in a snowbank.
According to WMUR, Read claims that she is a victim of a law enforcement coverup, and her boyfriend was abusive. However, an expert discovered that her vehicle was backing up at the exact moment when O’Keefe last used his cell phone.
The computer chip from the vehicle was used to sync with the vehicle’s clock and O’Keefe’s phone during a three-point turn. His phone was locked seconds before the SUV was put in reverse. Also, the pedal pressed two-thirds of the way down.
That means she reversed with force. To make matters worse for Read, her taillight was busted. O’Keefe’s DNA was found on broken pieces of glass that matched the fragments left on the Lexus taillight.
Also, pieces of the taillight were found in the clothes that she wore the night of the incident. Prosecutors argue that this data supports their argument that Read hit the police officer, knocked him down, and left him to die.
However, the defense will testify that O’Keefe used his phone after Read left the scene. Read was also intoxicated beyond the legal limit the following morning.
