‘Been Encountering Them Since 2021’ Minnesota Residents Report Seeing Jellyfish-Like UFO Swarm
Multiple residents of Roseau County, Minnesota, reported seeing UFOs moving in a wavy motion, like a jellyfish. One of the witnesses described them as appearing, disappearing, and moving in different directions.
The UFOs reportedly appeared between 6:40 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. local time on Feb. 2. While the witnesses were unable to capture the phenomenon on camera, they were so bewildered by what they saw that they shared the encounter on social media.
“Anyone see any strange tiny lights in the Minnesota area in Roseau County?” one of the witnesses asked on Reddit. “There were several of them moving almost in a wavy motion, my partner said, and I quote ‘it moves almost like how a jellyfish would.’ They were so tiny they looked far away like stars, but would move towards a direction for a bit, then disappear before another showed up, moving in a different direction altogether.”
Unfortunately, due to the distance and the limitations of the witness’s phone, no decent video of the UFOs could be taken.
“Some were brighter than others, but most seem[ed] faded, and we saw about 6 of them,” the witness continued. “Anyone else see anything or have any insight on what it could have been. The only thing I can say is that they didn’t move like a plane or helicopter, and they moved at a slow pace, each in [a] different direction.”
Is there a simple explanation for the UFOs, or is something more sinister behind them?
One commenter on the post suggested that the mysterious lights could have been satellite flares. “Seems a bit early for them though, but there would still be plenty of satellites that could have been visible,” they wrote.
However, when comparing what they saw with images shared by the commenter, the UFO witness said it did not have the long tails like the satellite flares. Also, when another commenter asked whether the UFOs appeared in a line, the witness said they didn’t. “They were kinda scattered and showed up one at a time in different locations,” the witness wrote.
Interestingly, another commenter claimed to have seen similar UFOs in Minnesota for years.
“Could possibly be orbs, more people are reporting them,” they wrote. “I have been encountering them since 2021, many up close. MUFON [Mutual UFO Network] thinks they are alien probes observing us.”
A highly-publicized UFO encounter occurred not too far from this UFO sighting in 1979
Roseau County, where this UFO sighting took place, borders Marshall County in Minnesota. Marshall County was the site of a UFO encounter known as the “Val Johnson Incident.”
The UFO encounter was so infamous that reenactments of it have been shown on multiple TV shows, and it has been discussed in multiple books. It has its own Wikipedia page and has been covered by the Minnesota Historical Society.
A 2015 article by MPR News describes what Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy Val Johnson saw at 1:40 a.m. on August 27, 1979.
“Johnson drove toward the light, and woke up in the ditch a half-hour later with burns around his eyes,” it reads. “The windshield and one headlight of his 1977 Ford LTD were smashed. Both radio antennas were bent sharply back. The watch on his wrist and the clock on the dash both ticked 14 minutes slow.”
Johnson’s squad car is preserved in the Marshall County Museum. Former Marshall County Sheriff Dennis Brekke gave talks at the museum about the car and that night.
Johnson, who was 71 at the time of the article, said, “I saw a ball of light. I drove toward it, and suddenly it was in the car with me. It’s unexplainable, and will remain so. I’m happy with my mental stability.”
