The Jeep Wrangler significantly improves in 1 crucial area
People have a lot to say about the Jeep Wrangler. It has a ton of reputations, from being a war hero to being less aerodynamic than a cow. However, it just made improvements in one area where it has been struggling for decades.
The Jeep Wrangler just got safety improvements
It’s a miracle for the Jeep Wrangler to finally be declared safer than ever before. The boxy Wrangler has spent decades flipping in tests and struggling to improve its low safety ratings.
According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), the Wrangler earned a ‘Good’ rating during the moderate front overlap test. Good is the highest score possible. However, it only earned a ‘Good’ in nine out of 10 categories.
The seat belts have improved load limiters and pre-tensioners to improve rear passenger safety. Also, the Wrangler earned a Good rating during side impact testing. These improvements provide the highest rankings that Wrangler SUVs have ever earned.
However, Jeep Wrangler models could still flip over. It hasn’t been tested since it flipped in 2022, so it has an incomplete score. But it probably won’t be retested until Jeep does something to address a change to prevent rolling again.
Plus, several areas could still be improved. For example, the LED headlights have a Marginal score, and the LED Projector headlights got a Poor rating.
It earned a Poor rating during the front crash pedestrian test, and the seat belt reminders got a Marginal score.
While the Wrangler continues to improve, the Ford Bronco still ranks as the safer option that didn’t roll over when last tested.
