If you wanted a hybrid Jeep truck to happen, don’t hold your breath. Unfortunately, the Jeep Gladiator 4xe just got canned. This is shocking information, as the plug-in hybrid truck has been in the works for years.

Stellantis cancels the Jeep Gladiator 4xe

I feel a little let down after following teasers about the Jeep Gladiator 4xe for years. After months of waiting, the plug-in hybrid Jeep truck has been officially canceled.

Those looking for electric 4xe power will have to stick with the Wrangler or Grand Cherokee. However, the Jeep Compass 4xe and Cherokee 4xe may arrive by the end of 2026.

Stellantis shared that the Gladiator 4xe was dropped because the automaker is reassessing its product strategy. This is because customers’ propulsion preferences for battery-electric trucks are continuing to evolve.

But don’t worry, the Gladiator isn’t being discontinued. According to Car and Driver, the Jeep brand has already started investing in funding to support the long-term growth of the Gladiator.

It will provide more customer-requested factory features, customization, and additional powertrain options soon.

You can expect the Gladiator Rubicon 392 to make an appearance soon. In the Wrangler, this 6.4-liter HEMI V8 delivered 470 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.0 seconds.

The Wrangler 4xe features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It’s the second most powerful powertrain option.

It seems that because the Gladiator is basically a Wrangler with a longer wheelbase and cargo bed over the rear axle, adding the 4xe powertrain would be easy. But the engineers must know something that I don’t.
