A family of eight was traveling home when they found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time in Minneapolis. The minivan was carrying a man, his wife, and six kids when they were attacked.
Ages of the kids include a six-month-old, a two-year-old, two four-year-olds, a 7-year-old, and an 11-year old. It started as a normal evening for the parents. They left their son’s basketball game and went to the grocery store.
Then they noticed commotion surrounding traffic, and the wife saw her mom among the protestors. The family wanted to pick her up to get her home safely.
According to Bring Me The News, the father claims officers knew he was trying to leave. Then they threw three flash bangs at the van and canisters of tear gas. The vehicle started filling with smoke, and the airbags deployed, trapping them inside.
The father shared, “My six-month-old can’t even breathe as the car filled with teargas, and I’m trying to pull my kids out.” Reportedly, the baby stopped breathing as he called out for an ambulance. It took them five minutes to respond.
As the wife performed CPR on the baby, others poured milk on its older siblings in an effort to neutralize the tear gas. The family was rushed to the hospital by emergency responders. Two of the children with asthma and both parents were hospitalized.
Also, the Minneapolis Police Department has been quiet about the incident. It’s unclear if city, state, or federal agents threw the flash bangs.
