Sorry to the drivers who are ushering in the new year with new recalls! The Hyundai Tucson has a dangerous fire risk that you should be aware of. Roughly 61,000 SUVs have an issue that could cause a short circuit, potentially igniting the trailer lights.

Hyundai Tucson Recall: Faulty wiring harnesses may cause fires

If you own a 2022-2024 Hyundai Tucson, then this recall notice is for you. Roughly 61,000 SUVs are at risk of bursting into flames.

The Tucson tow hitch wiring harnesses may allow water to leak into the control modules. This might cause short circuits and fires. Hyundai shared that the trailer wiring harness accessory may have been improperly sealed.

They were installed in a location susceptible to water intrusion. As a result, a ‘rare’ short circuit could lead to melting, overheating, or fires.

Also, the trailing lighting is at risk of failing while driving. Hyundai warns that problems with turn signals, parking, and brake lights on the vehicles or trailers are a risk.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), inoperative stop lamps increase the risk of accidents.

Hyundai will notify owners at risk via mail starting on February 16, 2026. You’ll have to visit a local dealership to have the trailer tow hitch wiring harness replaced, free of charge.

Hyundai asks drivers to “park outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed.” However, you can continue driving your Tucson. Also, Hyundai is aware of three fires related to this issue. There haven’t been any related injuries or accidents.

The wiring harness recall number is 290. You can contact Hyundai at 855-371-9460 with any questions you may have.
