Hyundai has a problem on its hands, eh? It really does. Seriously, there are tons of Hyundai Santa Cruz trucks piling up at the border with no way into Canada. New tariff complications have brought shipments to a halt.

Hyundai Santa Cruz trucks can’t get into Canada

There are plenty of Hyundai Santa Cruz trucks on their way to Canada, but there’s a slight hitch in the plan. Due to new tariff complications, the vehicles can’t cross the border.

So, they’re stuck in America. Now, Canadian drivers may face delays. Go ahead and add a few extra weeks to your estimated delivery time.

However, at least the Santa Cruz is built in America. According to Hyundai, the little truck is exclusively manufactured at the plant in Montgomery, Alabama. That could mean more supply and cheaper prices for Americans, right?

Well, maybe. Only 2,574 models were sold in Canada in 2024. A total of 32,033 trucks were sold in the United States. There is a much higher demand for the unibody truck in America. However, total sales are down by 6.8%.

Hyundai Canada Chief Executive Steve Flamand remains committed to production. It has produced a number of trucks that are just being held up. Hyundai will quickly decide what to do. Dealers and customers won’t be waiting for vehicles.

This is bad for the Korean automaker. Although, the Santa Cruz’s biggest rival doesn’t mind. The Ford Maverick sold 131,142 trucks in the United States during 2024.

It’s unclear if the Maverick has an advantage in Canada if it’s built in Mexico. But it’s getting more expensive in America.
