Tennessee man hits FedEx truck and punches police officer
A Tennessee man punched a police officer right in the face after he hit a FedEx truck on a busy highway. The incident started in the middle of morning rush hour traffic as officers responded to reports of a vehicle being chased out of Rhea County.
Deputies joined the pursuit on Highway 60 at the county line. The dark SUV side-swiped multiple vehicles, including a police car. Then the driver, identified as Cornell D. Wilson, slammed into the back of a FedEx truck.
The crash occurred right at the conjunction of Highway 153 and I-75. According to News Channel 9, Wilson wasn’t ready to surrender. He jumped out of his mangled SUV and ran away on foot as police officers chased him.
A deputy was attempting to deploy a taser on Wilson when he punched him in the face with a closed fist. Other officers jumped in to detain him.
Wilson was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and faces multiple charges from Rhea County and Hamilton County. The charges include aggravated vehicle assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
It’s unclear why Wilson was running from the cops, but Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett shared that you should never try to run from police or assault an officer.
He explained that deputies are fully committed to apprehending and holding you accountable for your stupid decisions and actions.
