Hertz yet again made social media rounds after a customer recorded his interaction with a location manager upon returning a rental car on TikTok. You can watch the clip below.

TikTok user Logan (@lifeisfun3000) posted a recording of a Hertz employee demanding the customer leave the premises after he told the driver he would change their credit card an extra $10,000. Then, the employee says he’ll have the customer arrested. Despite the threats, the customer continued to question the charge, pointing out on camera that he had signed an agreement with unlimited miles.

The Hertz employee affirmed the statement, immediately bringing up the “excessive” miles the customer put on the rental car. Apparently, the driver clocked 25,000 miles in a single month. Still, according to the customer, there wasn’t a mileage limit spelled out anywhere in the contract.

The video already has 6.9 million views.

Today, Hertz released a statement apologizing for the customer’s experience. The rental car company says the customer won’t be charged “for mileage,” per the contract terms. What’s more, the franchise owner shared that they’re addressing the employee’s behavior.

Still, a couple of things:

I’m wondering if Hertz stating that they won’t charge the customer “for mileage” means they’re looking or approving other charges, like wear-and-tear.

Also…25,000 miles in a month? Uh, what? HOW? That’s 806 miles per day for 31 days. Did they drive this car nonstop for an entire month? Why? So many questions…

In any case, Hertz has a “reputation” for seemingly unjustified charges and poor customer service, like attempting to charge an EV rental customer a “fuel” fee. We can add this one to the pot.
