One Half-Ton Truck’s Price Dropped $17,500 for 2026
If you’ve been dreaming of a Chevy Silverado EV, but the price was just too high, it’s time to reconsider. General Motors just rolled out a new top trim for the electric half-ton truck with a price $17,300 lower than last year. That’s literally the price of a cheap car!
It’s not hard to see that GM is struggling to sell its full-frame EVs. Its Detroit-area “Factory Zero” assembles the GMC Hummer EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and Chevrolet Silverado EV. In a few short months, the plant went from surging along with three full shifts of production, to limping along with just a single shift.
Chevy responded by absolutely slashing Silverado EV prices for the 2026 model year, and juggling around some trims. The 5WT Extended Range trim is down $1,200 to $68,295. The 8WT Max Range is down $1,500 to $76,295. Gone is the old entry-level trim, and in its place is the $2,200 cheaper 4WT Standard Range which you can get your hands on for $54,895.
For 2025, the top trim was the Silverado “RST” or “Rally Sport Truck” which claimed 785 lb-ft of torque and started at $89,395. This year, the Silverado EV Trail Boss replaces it, claiming 775 lb-ft of torque and offering a $72,095 MSRP. Even with the price drop, you get a factory lift kit and massive 35-inch off-roading tires. I double-checked the battery size, and the two trucks are mechanically identical, but the new top trim costs $17,300 less. The difference is the price of a Nissan Versa.
