A GMC Sierra owner faces 3 transmission replacements before 91k miles
Would you be happy if your truck needed two transmission replacements before reaching 91,000 miles? One owner is frustrated by the whole ordeal and is warning others after her GMC Sierra continuously struggles with faulty transmissions.
A GMC Sierra had 2 transmission replacements before reaching 91k miles
At first, Shannon Elizabeth was extremely happy with her 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Texas Edition. But the honeymoon phase didn’t last long.
She discovered that while her truck looked great on the outside, some of the internal components weren’t up to par.
The eight-speed automatic transmission needed to be replaced at about 80,000 miles. This wasn’t too much of a pain because it was covered by the warranty. However, after only 10,000 miles, the transmission had to be replaced a second time.
Now her truck is rolling with 91,000 miles on the odometer and the transmission is going out again. That means she’s getting her truck diagnosed for the second time in the past six months and she will have to pay to replace the transmission twice.
According to Torque News, trading the truck in isn’t an option due to its significantly reduced value which is now less than what she owes.

But Shannon isn’t alone. This transmission problem is so widespread across the GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, and Cadillac Escalade that General Motors is facing a lawsuit about it.
The lawsuit involves roughly 800,000 General Motors vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2019. It alleges that the vehicles suffer from significant transmission problems including shuddering, shaking, hesitation, and lurching.
Also, the suit claims that the defect can lead to premature failure. The jerking is caused by internal transmission and torque converter issues.
This could cause friction between hydraulic systems and gears, causing improper function and leading to metal shavings that circulate through the transmission.
