Georgia Driver Hits Multiple Cars Before Crashing at Popeyes and Walking Right on in
A string of battered bumpers stretched across two Georgia cities, all pointing back to a single driver who couldn’t stay in his lane. Or even stay outside a fast-food restaurant long enough for officers to reach him.
Police in Duluth reported that 53-year-old James Mann plowed into several cars in Johns Creek. He kept going until more collisions followed in Duluth. His spree ended on Pleasant Hill Road, where his vehicle came to rest in front of a Popeyes.
Officers explained that the driver got out, walked straight inside the restaurant, and stayed there until he wandered back out to find police waiting.
According to WSB-TV, no one suffered major injuries. That might be the only lucky break in an evening that otherwise turned into a rolling insurance headache.
Investigators reported that the driver faces DUI, reckless driving, hit and run and a list of other traffic charges
For the DUI, Georgia courts can order jail time, heavy fines, license suspension, and mandatory substance abuse programs.
Reckless driving and hit-and-run charges add their own fines and possible jail exposure. If he holds prior convictions, sentencing only gets tougher.
On the insurance side, the drivers Mann hit will likely file property damage claims under their own collision coverage (if they have it). Their insurers then pursue Mann’s policy through a legal process called subrogation to recover costs.
If Mann’s liability coverage falls short or if his insurer denies his claim because of a criminal offense under the policy language, victims may turn to uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. Either way, adjusters will spend days sorting out which impacts happened where.
Police didn’t offer a motive or additional details on the number of cars damaged. They simply reported that they arrested Mann once he stepped back outside.
