General Motors Faces Investigation As Engine Failure Recall Fix For 600K Models Fails
Experts are working on a new case. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into General Motors due to engine failures. Allegedly, a recall to correct roughly 600,000 vehicles may have failed. Drivers complain about repeated problems.
General Motors is being investigated over a faulty engine failure recall
In April, 2025, General Motors issued a recall for about 600,000 trucks and SUVs due to engine failure. However, the remedy for the problem may have failed.
After receiving multiple complaints from drivers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching an investigation into the matter. The recall came after the NHTSA got 346 reports of 6.2-liter V8 L87 engines failing.
Drivers note that the failure might be related to bearing failures or because the connecting rods puncture the engine blocks.
General Motors shares that it is caused by defective connecting rod or crankshaft components. To correct the problem, GM replaced the engines or repaired them.
Also, the recall includes:
- 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade/ESV
- 2021-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- 2021-2024 Chevrolet Suburban
- 2021-2024 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2021-2024 GMC Yukon/XL
Now the NHTSA has received 36 reports of failure after the recall repairs were completed. The problem could cause the engine to completely fail, or fail to start.
Sometimes they fail without warning and can blow with very low mileage. Some drivers experience a sudden loss of power while driving. Also, owners link the issue to increased fuel consumption.
Symptoms of failure include engine noise, knocking, high RPMs, shifting issues, and illuminated check engine lights. Plus, General Motors is facing multiple lawsuits related to the L87 engine.
