‘People Don’t Understand’ Tennessee Mayor Claims Future Ford Truck Plant Is Worth Temporary Pain
No pain, no gain, right? A Ford plant is being built in Tennessee, but massive changes just delayed things for years. But a local mayor swears that the benefits of the new truck plant will be worth the wait, as it eventually leads to economic growth.
Tennessee Mayor wants people to stay positive about Ford truck plant
2025 was a wild year for the economy and trucks. Many EPA-policies were repealed, and the $2,5000 federal EV tax credit ended. Now that automakers don’t have to go greener and EV sales plummet, plans are being drastically changed.
Ford recently decided to focus on gas and hybrid-powered vehicles and ended its relationship with BlueOval SK to build an electric pickup. It was going to be manufactured at a new Tennessee truck plant.
However, as Ford decides to build a new affordable pickup instead, the truck plant faces delays. Operations have been pushed back by four years. Government officials remain positive as the plant should still create 2,300 jobs. Previously, 3,300 positions were promised.
Hayward County Mayor David Livingston shares, “This is actually a big plus. People don’t understand that there’s a whole lot more parts and things that have to be provided in a fuel vehicle versus an electric vehicle.”
According to Ford Authority, Ford wants most of its suppliers readily at hand. This could lead to additional factories for the parts suppliers coming to West Tennessee. Residents can expect more jobs as a result.
Other local mayors shared that much money has been put into the plant for it to fail. Anew affordable gas-powered truck will enter production in 2029. It replaced the previously promised $30,000 electric truck.
