The full-size truck with the highest maintenance costs came as a bit of a surprise because it’s often referred to as being a reliable option. But apparently, when the Chevy Silverado 1500 breaks, it has the most expensive repair costs.

Surprise, the Chevy Silverado 1500 ranks as the full-size truck with the highest repair costs. Based on reliability scores, I would expect the Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra to be the most expensive trucks to repair. 

According to Go Banking Rates, the Silverado 1500 could cost $10,618 for maintenance and repairs during the first 10 years of ownership. 

The main problem could be related to the infotainment system. If it fails, it could cost between $500 to $1,000 to repair or replace. 

Then Chevrolet Silverado owners might have to worry about engine problems. If the engine starts acting up, expect to spend at least $1,000 for repairs. 

However, the 2024 Silverado 1500 has a reliability rating of 84 out of 100 from J.D.Power, which is above average. 

Scores between 70 and 80 are average, while anything between 81 and 90 is above average. Anything between 91 and 100 is best. 

The Ford F-150 has a reliability score of 78, dropping it down to the average category. The 2024 Toyota Tundra earned an 82, placing it only two points behind the Silverado. 

But these trucks could face smaller problems on a regular basis that aren’t as expensive to fix. Also, while the Tundra is facing a problem with faulty engines, Toyota is replacing them at no cost to owners. 

An average Silverado 1500 model is still expected to last between 200,000 to 250,000 miles with regular care and maintenance. Some Silverado trucks have surpassed 300,000 miles.
