In the first six months of 2025, Ford broke the record for recalls in a full year. Halfway through August, the automaker isn’t slowing down. Ford announced two more recalls last week. One is for additional problems with already-recalled rearview cameras. The other appears to be a quality-control issue that could cause F-150 pickup truck axle bolts to break. These latest recalls affect the following models:

  •  2023-25 Ford F-150 pickup trucks
  • 2020-22 Lincoln Corsair crossovers

Ford’s latest F-150 recall

Ford announced it is expanding a previous recall in which one or both rear axle hub bolts may fatigue and break. These are the large bolts that hold the axle shafts to the wheel hub. When they break, the truck can lose all power. If they were to break while the truck was sitting still, the vehicle could roll away, even when shifted into park.

The automaker warns that recall number 23V896 now affects 103,100 F-150s made from 2023-25. Specifically, trucks with the Trailer Tow Max Duty Package and corresponding heavy-duty axle with its 9.75-inch rear end.

While many of Ford’s 2025 recalls have been for software, it has had other nut-and-bolt issues. The automaker warned certain F-150s may have the control arm ball joint nut in the front suspension loosen and come free. Ford also recalled some Super Duty trucks for a steering linkage bolt that may loosen and come free.

Ford’s latest rearview camera recall

Ford’s second big recall announcement last week was for 42,000 Lincoln Corsairs (2020-22) that may have a rearview camera issue when water leaks into the housing and shorts out the unit.

This second recall is 25S83. What’s interesting about this one is the 2020-22 Lincoln Corsair’s backup camera is already part of recall 25S72. That recall was because its printed circuit board was designed for a different vehicle and could display the backup camera image upside-down on the infotainment screen. This was a massive recall affecting 200,000 vehicles from many Lincoln and Ford model years.

But that’s not all. Ford also recalled the 2020-22 Lincoln Corsair on Feb. 10, 2022—along with thousands of other vehicles—for a third, undiagnosed issue with its rearview cameras.

In fall 2024, the NHTSA hit Ford with a $165 million civil penalty. It was the second-biggest in the agency’s history and was because of how Ford settled another massive rearview camera problem recall the agency said the automaker bungled. As a result, Ford had to audit all the software it had installed during recalls in the past three years. The result is many repeat recalls, leading to this year’s record-breaking numbers.
