Is Ford’s backup camera issue a repeat recall?
Ford’s recall 25S72 has now expanded to affect 200,061 individual vehicles. It may seem awfully familiar to anyone paying attention to Ford’s recalls. That’s because some of these models have been affected by a backup camera hardware issue. But recall 25S72 is an all-new software problem.
In March 2025, I reported that Ford had recalled almost 5,000 2025 Escape SUVs for a backup camera issue. These vehicles were displaying their backup camera video upside-down, thanks to a printed circuit board designed for a different vehicle.
Then in April 2025, I reported that Ford was recalling 160,000 more trucks and SUVs for a problem with rearview camera hardware. The recall was for multiple 2015 makes and models which had been optioned with one of the first rearview cameras Ford offered.
This latest recall also affects nearly every year Ford has offered rearview cameras. It would seem there’s a problem with the software it’s been using all along. But the good news is that Ford is confident its dealerships can simply update this software and the problem will go away.
