The Ford Motor Company’s EcoBoost line lead the charged with reliable, mass-produced, turbocharged engines. Especially for work vehicles such as the F-150. But now, Ford’s announced a recall for thousands of its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6s over a potential rapid oil leak. Affected vehicles may include:

  • 2024-2025 Ford F-150s
  • 2024-2025 Ford Expeditions
  • 2024-2025 Lincoln Navigators

Ford recalling 4,163 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engines

The NHTSA announced recall number 24V851000. It warned drivers, “A rapid oil leak can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, an oil leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components, can increase the risk of a fire.”

That sounds worth looking into. Ford adds that it knows of no injuries or crashes from this issue. But it has enough reports of the problem, it’s inspecting all potentially affected engines and fixing any problematic ones for free. Originally, the NHTSA said Ford is recalling 2,490 vehicles. Ford Authority announced that number has grown to 4,163. Obviously, that’s still a fraction of the EcoBoosts made so far. So let’s hope this recall doesn’t grow any more.

So what is causing the leak? One of the plugs in the engine may be misaligned from the factory. Ford’s specifically looking into F-150s made between September 2024 and January 2025, Expeditions from September 2024 through February 2025, and Navigators made from September 2024 through October 2025. Only the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 vehicles are involved in this recall.

This is the latest in a big recall year for Ford. The automaker is currently auditing how many of its previous software recalls were incorrectly installed and issuing multiple repeat recalls. The result has been over two dozen recalls in just three months. But this hardware recall is a good reminder that nuts-and-bolts problems still occur as well.

If you’re curious about open recalls on your Ford, you can always call your local dealership with your VIN number ready. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 25S30. You can also plug your VIN in at NHTSA.gov or call thel NHTSA toll free at 1-888-327-4236.
