The next generation of the Ford Ranger is on its way, and apparently, there could be some serious changes. When Ford reintroduced the Ranger back in 2019, the United States actually got an older model compared to the global market. But once the new generation, arrives that will change. Recently spotted was a Ford Ranger that appears to have a larger cab along with a longer bed. And that should increase the utility and practicality of this mid-size truck.

What’s new for the Ford Ranger?

For 2023, there will be quite a bit different about the Ranger, including a Raptor version. In recent spy shots, a new configuration of Ford’s mid-size truck was seen. It appears to have the wheelbase of the crew cab and the longer bed from the extended cab version.

So, if you have been waiting for a Ranger with more length in its bed, this might be the right version for you. According to AutoBlog, the new configuration likely will be restricted to normal variants of the Ford Ranger. The Raptor model needs to have serious off-road performance, and a longer wheelbase would get in the way of that.

Is the Ranger a good truck?

In terms of being a mid-size truck, the Ranger does a fairly good job. Currently, this pickup is only available with a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine. And that challenges the thought that trucks have to have a V6 in order to win with customers.

While the Ranger does have other engine options and even a manual transmission on the global market, we don’t get those things here in the States. The Ranger Raptor will likely get a more potent engine. And that is something that should be appreciated.

When can you buy the 2023 Ford Ranger?

Production of the 2023 Ford Ranger is expected to start in October of 2022, and orders should be opening up any day now. That way, you can place an order for your new mid-size truck. It was rumored that orders could be placed on July 18th, but that date has already come and gone.

With current supply chain constraints and demand for new trucks, keeping up with demand is a difficult task. And even big brands like Ford have not been immune. That fact can be seen with the 2022 Ford Maverick and new Ford F-150 Lightning, both of which Ford was forced to place a pause on customer orders.

Should you buy a Ford Ranger?

If you are interested in a mid-size pickup, the Ford Ranger certainly makes a sold contender. While it may not offer a V6 like the 2022 Nissan Frontier or 2022 Toyota Tacoma, it is still capable and can even handle some off-roading.

Once the Ford Ranger Raptor arrives, the capability will only be increased. So, if you want a serious off-road truck, it might be best to wait. But, if you find yourself needing a mid-size truck immediately, buying the current generation Ranger is not a bad move.
