The secret is finally out. The new Ford Ranger is gaining tons of diesel power. Figures about how much power the 2023 Ford Ranger will have has been kept under wraps until now, and we’re excited about extra turbo-diesel muscle. 

Does the 2023 Ford Ranger have a diesel engine? 

Yes, the 2023 Ford Ranger has a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine with 247 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, some V8 gas-powered engines don’t even have that much twisting power. 

But so far, this diesel engine could only be available in Australia, in the XTL, Sport, and Wildtrak trim levels. The official fuel economy numbers haven’t been released, but the engine truck meets Euro 5 regulations. Also, America has higher emission standards to meet. 

The new Ranger can be fitted with a smaller 2.0-liter single-turbo engine with 168 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque in some regions too. The Ford turbo-diesel engines come with an automatic start/stop system that’s available with the Ford Ranger Raptors’ 3.0-liter V6 gas-powered engine. 

How much power does the American Ranger have?

Like the Ford Bronco Raptor, the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor will be equipped with the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 EcoBoost engine with 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. These figures may change due to the different size and weight of the Ranger. 

The regular Ranger model is expected to carry over its 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. While this engine provides a stout amount of power, a little more muscle would make things more interesting. 

However, the rumor mills suggest that a hybrid Ford Ranger or an all-electric model is in the works. So, we won’t give up hope for more power just yet. 

The current Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,905 lbs. With the V6 turbo-diesel engine, the Ranger can carry a payload of up to 2,160 lbs, and the twin-turbo Ranger can carry a payload of up to 2,178 lbs.  

With the gas-powered V6 engine, the Ranger can carry a payload of up to 2,537 lbs, which is an incredible increase. The new Ford Ranger might be able to two up to 7,717 lbs while the Raptor maxes out at 5,512 lbs due to its extra weight. 

What do we know about the American Ranger? 

The 2023 Ford Ranger could start at about $28,000. The 2022 model has an MSRP of $25,500, so the new model might have a price increase of about $2,500 due to the fresh redesign with an upgraded suspension and tech. 

It features an extended cap for more passenger space. It might incorporate modern storage solutions similar to the cubbies in the Ford Maverick. Speaking of the Maverick, the new Ranger has a matching design with C-shaped headlights. 

Also, forget the old 4.2-inch and 9.0-inch infotainment screens. The Ranger now features a 10.1-inch screen. A 12-inch screen might be available too. We hope the truck offers wireless charging alone with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
