We’re finally getting new information about the revised Ford Ranger as it enters production. The 2023 Ford Ranger features plenty of fresh upgrades to be excited about, but the fuel economy isn’t much better.

We have official EPA ratings for the 2023 Ford Ranger, and the American model is still a bit thirsty. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined. This is when the engine is paired with the automatic start-stop option.

So, without that feature, the fuel economy could be lower. The 2022 Ford Ranger gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. The Ranger could gain a hybrid variant to improve these numbers soon.

Other countries get different engine options. The new single-turbo 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine gets about 30.9 mpg. The 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel four-cylinder engine gets between 32.4 – 34 mpg. You may get better numbers with the manual transmission.

Also, the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 engine gets an EPA-estimated 28 mpg. We probably won’t get any of the diesel engines or the manual option in America, but nothing has been officially confirmed.

How much power does the 2023 Ranger have?

The 2023 Ford Ranger is expected to use the same engine as the previous generation. The 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine pumps out 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Rumors suggest that the engine could have a 10 hp boost and a 10 to 20 lb-ft torque increase.

If you want more juice, consider the 2023 Ranger Raptor. Reportedly, it will feature a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 392 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque.

The current model can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.8 seconds, which is exciting for a midsize truck. We expect the Ranger Raptor to be a little faster.

Also, the Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,860 lbs. It’s one of the more robust options in the class and doesn’t exactly need more power. However, we wouldn’t be opposed to more strength.

How much does the 2023 Ranger cost?

The 2023 Ford Ranger is expected to start at around $28,000. However, official pricing hasn’t been released. The 2022 Ford Ranger has an MSRP of $25,715. Seeing the price go up wouldn’t be surprising due to all of the upgrades.

Production of the 2023 Ranger officially started this week, but the new models are heading to Australia first. We will have to wait a little longer in America to get behind the wheel. We’re jealous that Australians might have the new model at dealerships by June.

Ford wants that the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage could delay the truck. That would push the new Ranger back even further in America. We have the short end of the stick with the Ford Ranger.

The Ford Ranger Raptor will go to Australia first, too. We will keep an eye out for updates and can’t wait to see the new Ford Ranger in person. As production ramps up, we should learn more about the American version.
