Ford’s recall for fuel pump failure

Ford is warning drivers of engines stalling while driving. If your engine stalls out you’ll lose your power brakes and power steering, resulting in an increased crash risk.

The culprit? The “low pressure” fuel pump.

These vehicles have two fuel pumps. They have a low pressure fuel pump installed inside the tank to move gasoline into the fuel line. Then between the tank and engine a “high pressure” pump sends the fuel on its way to the injection system.

Because of the inconvenient location of the low pressure pump, Ford may be searching for ways to fix it that don’t include dropping every single tank. It says it’s still developing a solution, but will contact owners by July 14th.

Curious if your Ford is subject to a recall? You can always call your dealership or the Ford recall hotline at 1-866-436-7332, with your VIN handy. You can also type in your VIN at NHTSA.gov.
