Florida woman maces driver who killed a chicken crossing the road
A woman in Key West, Florida, really flew off the handle. Thirty-eight-year-old Cynthia Diaz Sosa saw a chicken crossing the road — no joke — so she stopped her Toyota Corolla and waited for the stray.
Perla DeMiller pulled up behind Sosa, frustrated because she was late to pick up a child from school. She honked her horn, but Sosa didn’t move. So DeMiller pulled out to pass Sosa and ran over the chicken.
No word on whether DeMiller was able to see the bird or hit it by accident. But Sosa cried fowl. She later said of DeMiller that she wanted to “teach her a lesson.” So she chased the other woman down, cut her off, and used her own car to block her vehicle. Sosa escalated the confrontation further when she tried to pull DeMiller’s car door open. DeMiller tried to pull it closed, and you might say the two women scrambled for control.
The police report says Sosa “pulled out her bear mace and sprayed it into the vehicle, spraying Perla directly in the face while she was seated inside.” She sure wasn’t yolking around.
Sosa made the mistake of speeding off. Emergency personnel arrived and treated both DeMiller and her passenger for a face full of bear mace. Sosa must have realized she didn’t have anywhere to go — she is, after all, cooped up on an island — so she drove to the police station to turn herself in.
Police charged Sosa with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of burglary. At one point, she had a GoFundMe set up to ask for bail money and legal fees, but it appears that she has since posted her $35,000 bail. Sosa’s lawyer says, “There’s more to the story and we’re looking forward to her day in court.”
One thing’s for sure: this case won’t be over easy.
