A plan to steal an ATM didn’t go as planned for a couple of thieves in Florida. They underestimated their truck. They thought it could go off-roading as advertised, but it helped police officers recover the cash.

Florida thieves caught as truck gets stuck

Multiple thieves are still at large after a failed robbery attempt in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. Police officers responded to reports of a bank robbery around 5:30 am at a Truist Bank.

Witnesses shared that multiple people dressed in dark clothes with masks jumped out of the truck. They attached chains to an ATM and tried to remove it from its foundation.

Why break into the ATM when you can steal the entire unit, right? Well, the robbery attempt quickly turned to chaos as the pickup got stuck in the sand.

According to Click Orlando, something spooked the criminals, and they ran across the street. They abandoned their disabled truck and got in a dark-colored Tesla.

The getaway car was spotted speeding westbound over the Edu Gallie Causeway. Now, police officers need help finding these individuals. If you have related information, contact Detective Enith Clermont at 321-773-3030.

A freestanding ATM can weigh between 200 and 1,000 lbs. Most mid-size trucks tow between 5,000 and 7,700 lbs.

But to pull something from its foundation, you need the right tensile strength. Also, the anchoring system can impact the required force to rip something free.

The stability of the soil under the structure also makes a difference. I’m thinking that the thieves didn’t do the research or math required to determine if their pickup was strong enough for the heist.
