‘Shortcut to Jail’ Florida Motorcyclist Arrested for Going 106 MPH in 45 MPH Zone With Child Passenger
Police arrested a motorcyclist on Saturday in Marion County, Florida, on charges of traveling 106 mph in a 45 mph zone. Making matters even worse, the biker was allegedly traveling at this speed in a residential neighborhood with a child as his passenger.
An officer with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was conducting speed enforcement when he observed the motorcycle traveling at more than twice the speed limit. According to a social media post by the Sheriff’s Office, the officer then initiated a traffic stop and followed the motorcycle.
After multiple turns in a residential neighborhood, the biker finally stopped at a residence. It was at that point that the officer realized the passenger riding on the back of the motorcycle was a child. Bonus: Polce said the child was not wearing a helmet.
The motorcycle may have passed its test, but the driver received a failing grade
The driver of the motorcycle reportedly claimed he was experiencing mechanical issues and was “testing” the motorcycle.
“Unfortunately, testing a motorcycle at over 100 MPH through a residential neighborhood – with a child on the back, not really the best option,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office wrote.
The motorcyclist was arrested and charged with child neglect and operating a vehicle at 100+ mph for what the Marion County Sheriff’s Office called “extreme speed while transporting a child passenger and his willful disregard for the child’s safety.”
Last year, Florida passed a law making driving over 100 mph a criminal misdemeanor.
