Florida man opened fire on slow driver, fled when they shot back
One Florida man thought carrying a gun meant he could bully drivers who annoyed him. But he wasn’t ready for the response. He may think twice about opening fire next time. Not only was he arrested, but the other driver shot back and scared him away.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Department reported that the victim was waiting at a red light and failed to go once it turned green. Jesus Manual Perez was waiting behind them. He honked his horn and tried to drive around the victim. But traffic was too busy for him to get around them. When the victim did go they immediately turned into a Publix supermarket parking lot.
Perez was livid. He followed the victim into the parking lot. He parked his car to block them in. Then he got out of his car, drew his gun, and opened fire.
We’re not talking warning shots. This sounds like a calculated move to strike them and hurt them. But Perez was in for a nasty surprise.

The victim drew their own gun and began shooting back at Perez. Obviously, Perez was hoping for an easy target. He wasn’t prepared for a fair fight. As soon as the victim began to shoot back, Perez got back in his car and fled. Neither Perez nor the victim were injured.
The incident was in broad daylight, and Perez was clearly visible on security camera footage. Police tracked him down, arrested him, and authorities charged him with attempted murder, shooting into an occupied conveyance, and discharge of a firearm in public. But that’s not all. Police must have found something else on Perez’s person or at his home.
Jail records show authorities also charged Perez with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia container, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of phencyclidine (PCP).
The victim isn’t being identified or charged because they were acting in self defense. Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez admitted, “It’s a scary situation.” He added, “You don’t know where the gunfire is coming from… we have so many incidents where we have an active shooter situation. You don’t really know what’s going on or where it’s coming from to react other than duck and try to take cover.”
