Florida police have seen it all. But Sheriff Wayne Ivey of Brevard County finally had it with Christopher Stanley. When recounting how the 39-year-old local threatened deputies and hurt his own dog, Ivey asked, “Can you be any worse of a human being?”

Just after 8 p.m. on a Thursday, the staff of Gator’s Dockside called the police. They reported a guest was yelling swears. He was allegedly charging the bartender and had slammed his own small dog down on the concrete ground. I’d guess some bystander had tried to take the animal to protect it. Why? When the deputies arrived, they found Stanley refusing to leave. He was demanding he get his dog back first.

He didn’t change his tune in the parking lot with the deputies. “He started making threats to them. And told us, ‘Woo, this gonna be a night to remember.’” The deputies arrested Stanley for disorderly conduct and disorderly intoxication. But even in handcuffs, he wasn’t giving up.

“He headbutted the hood of our patrol car.”

Stanley reportedly left a dent in the metal hood. But the deputies were unfazed and locked him in the back anyway. I’d guess the suspect was seeing some stars at this point.

“He decides to show us how tough he is. Actually, I think he showed us how dumb he is… It’s a night for him to remember, because our deputies did a great job. They locked his butt up.”

Sheriff Ivey took the time to thank the citizens who called 911, the team at Gator’s, and the deputies who “did a great job managing this fool.”

To Stanley, the sheriff said, “Enjoy your stay at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge.” Stanley is charged with animal cruelty, threats to a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, disorderly intoxication, breach of peace, criminal mischief, and violation of probation. He’s being held without bond. You can see the sheriff’s statement in the video embedded below:

“If you have enough evil in your heart, whether you’re drunk or not, to do that to this little baby—you deserve to sit in jail. Because if you can do that to an animal, you can do it to a human—or try. He tried it with the wrong crowd, though. Because he tried it with Brevard County deputies, and his lunch got packed for him.”
