On Wednesday, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) in Florida released new footage from a traffic stop that led to an hours-long manhunt for an INTERPOL fugitive. The footage included video taken from dash cameras, body cameras, and aerial footage from police helicopters.

The entire incident began at around 3:45 p.m. last week when a deputy pulled over a 33-year-old man in a burgundy Chevy. At first, everything appeared to be normal. The deputy asked him for identification. Then he asked the driver to exit the vehicle and come back to the police cruiser.

The man, it turned out, was listed as an “armed and dangerous” INTERPOL fugitive with warrants for Aggravated Robbery out of the Bahamas. He also had additional warrants against him from Broward County for Possession of Meth and Resisting Law Enforcement.

At that point, the driver sped away, driving the wrong way into interstate traffic. After the suspect turned around to go in the correct direction, deputies executed a PIT maneuver, sending the driver crashing into a guardrail.

After crashing, the man hopped the guardrail and ran across the highway into a heavily wooded area. Bodycam footage shows an officer giving chase on foot, then being informed that the suspect had stolen a van.

An air unit and multiple K-9 teams assisted in tracking the suspect down

The suspect was then spotted in a white van by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s air unit. When deputies caught up to him, the suspect ditched his vehicle again and headed into the woods.

About three hours later, with the help of the SJSO and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) K-9 teams, and JSO K-9 Rek, the suspect was found and subdued by “K9 engagement.” (The dogs bit him in the buttocks.)

“You did this, buddy,” a deputy told Bowe after he was caught. “We’ve got to get you out of here now.”

He was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, grand theft auto, resisting without violence, and possession of marijuana. He also now has to face the out-of-county warrants.
