Secret Service SUV catches on fire outside the White House

The White House was ramping up security efforts to prepare for a visit from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu when a chaotic emergency caused police officers and firefighters to surround the area.

A Secret Service SUV by the White House suddenly caught on fire around 9:30 AM. It was on Pennsylvania Avenue. According to the Economic Times, the fire started in the back seat of the vehicle.  Was someone smoking back there?!

This prompted a massive emergency response involving police officers, firefighters, and other emergency responders. It led to street closures and delayed traffic as plumes of smoke covered the area.

Luckily, the fire was quickly extinguished, and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental.

Authorities believe it was caused by an electrical issue. Secret Service members usually drive Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade SUVs.

There is a recall for 2023 – 2024 Suburban models due to the brake pressure switch wire harness leaking brake fluid. As a result, it could lead to an electrical short that causes a fire while the vehicle is being driven or parked.

2021 – 2024 Escalade models have a recall related to a faulty brake pressure sensor assembly. It could leak brake fluid into the pressure switch, leading to an electrical short that increases the risk of fire.

These issues are both being repaired at no cost to owners. So, perhaps the Secret Service should be on top of maintaining their vehicles.
