A California woman has had enough of the same old Honda CR-V problem. She had her fuel pump repaired after she received a recall notice. However, her SUV broke down, leaving her stranded, possibly due to the same issue weeks later. 

Failed Honda CR- V fuel pump repair leaves woman stranded 

TikTok user and 2019 Honda CR-V owner, @lobeegs, has been frustrated by failed SUV repairs. First, she needed a new battery after only having it for four months. 

Then she got a recall notice about the fuel pump and had it repaired at a local Honda dealership. Two months later, she was driving to work about 35 miles away. 

Suddenly, the entire dash lit up like a Christmas tree, and she couldn’t press the gas pedal. She put her hazards on and limped to AutoZone. It’s illegal to use your hazards while in motion, though. Just saying. 

AutoZone determined that the issue was caused by the fuel pump. Her insurance only covered 10 miles of towing, but she was 30 miles from the Honda dealership where the initial repair occurred. 

It would cost $160 for a tow, then she would need to pay $220 for a diagnostic that AutoZone already did. The manager of the first dealership claims that if the fuel pump repair had failed, then her Honda CR-V would have had immediate problems. It wouldn’t fail two months later. 

So, she decided to take it to a local dealership, and technicians will call the other one after they perform the diagnostic. Then she suffered in the heat, waiting over 130 minutes for a tow. 

I’ve reached out to lobeegs for an update. I need closure about the fuel pump and what the dealerships did. 

What is the Honda CR-V fuel pump recall? 

According to Honda, the automaker issued a recall for 2.6 million 2017 – 2020 Honda and Acura models due to fuel pump problems. This includes cars, trucks, and SUVs, like the CR-V, Ridgeline, TLX, MDX, Odyssey, Pilot, and more. 

The fuel pump may have been improperly molded, resulting in low-density impellers. This causes the impellers to break down until they’re inoperative. This could cause the engine to fail to start or stall while driving. 

Owners of impacted models were notified. The fix includes visiting a local Honda dealership for a free replacement. 

Did some CR-V fuel pump replacements fail? 

Upon researching this issue, I found various forums online where other owners of Honda CR-V models from 2017 to 2020 experienced the same issue. 

People reported that they had two fuel pumps fail after the recall occurred. One person had their second pump replaced under the drivetrain warranty because it was no longer considered to be under recall after the first repair. 

Both others commented about their CR-V SUVs being incredibly reliable. They’ve reached over 250,000 miles without any major issues. 

Also, people shared that AutoZone doesn’t really diagnose cars. They just scan for codes, and codes can have multiple meanings.
