Drunk man flies through a nail salon at 78 mph on Long Island

People are mourning the loss of family members and friends after a drunk man accelerated through a nail salon at 78 mpg in Long Island.

The incident occurred at the Hawaii Nail & Spa store in Deer Park. Allegedly, 64-year-old Steven Schwally left a liquor store with two bottles of Montebello Long Island Iced Tea before wrecking his Chevrolet Traverse

He hit the store around 4:30 PM, dragging four people under his SUV. Investigators found that he was speeding at 78 mph through a parking lot before the wreck.

Other police officers gathered that he also bought two 375-milliliter bottles of the Long Island Ice Tea at 11 am. The alcohol is 42-proof, meaning it’s very strong. According to NBC News, Schwally had been drinking and driving for hours.

Schwally has a blood alcohol content of 0.17, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 at the time of his arrest. This wasn’t the first time he’s been caught either.

Earlier in the year, he was charged with driving while intoxicated during an accident that killed an off-duty New York Police Department Officer and three other people. So, why was he free after vehicular manslaughter?

Schwally pleaded not guilty to the 38-count indictment for the deadly crash at the nail salon. State Supreme Court Justice, Richard Ambro, remanded Schwally to jail without bail.

He is a Marine veteran that lived in Suffolk country for about 50 years. However, he had been living in different hotels for over a year. Now he might get the help he needs.
