Police officers responded to reports of a traffic crash at the 6000 block of Sebastopol Avenue around 6 AM. Witnesses shared that the driver was still trapped inside the vehicle due to the wreckage.
The California officers arrived on scene to discover a black Land Rover SUV that collided with a wall. It basically punched a massive hole in the brickwork.
Officers found the suspect inside the vehicle inhaling whippets that contain nitrous oxide. This produces a short-lived euphoric high. But the gas displaces oxygen in the brain and lungs, leading to oxygen deprivation, nerve damage, and even death.
Video footage shows the vehicle traveling westbound on Sebastopol Avenue at a significant and unsafe speed. The driver hit a curb at West America Bank and crashed through their large sign.
Then he plowed through multiple trees and accelerated through a parking lot before hitting the brick wall of the building beside the bank. He caused significant structural damage.
According to Kron 4, the 47-year-old suspect was inhaling whippets before and after the crash. Emergency responders pulled him from the Land Rover so he could be arrested. Then he was transported to a local hospital.
Now the man is in jail, facing a charge for driving under the influence. Luckily, no one was injured. Police officers are grateful that no one else was around at the time, or they would be dealing with a lot more damage.
