You shouldn’t smuggle drugs. Ever. It’s a stupid crime that comes with big time. But if you have a suspended license, you definitely shouldn’t volunteer to be the driver for a smuggling operation. That’s just asking for trouble. And if you have no other choice, maybe stick to the speed limit like your life and liberty depend on it?

We’ll call it the “Only break one law at a time” strategy. But one Ontario man who definitely didn’t ask my advice just got busted with $87,200 USD worth of cocaine and oxycodone. All because he couldn’t slow down.

Ontario Provincial Police report they stopped a speeding vehicle. Mind you, this driver wasn’t doing a couple clicks over the limit on the Route Transcanadienne. No, he was ripping along a residential two-lane (35 mph limit) at highway speeds (60 mph).

Even so, he might have been able to get out of the traffic stop with just a ticket. If he’d had a driver’s license.

The press release had a no-nonsense tone. “An investigation was initiated, where police discovered the driver was a suspended driver.” In Canada, like the U.S., they aren’t letting you slide back behind the wheel after pulling that.

“The driver was subsequently arrested. Additionally, police seized amounts of suspected cocaine and oxycodone, with a total estimated value of $119,400.” In U.S. dollars, that’s approximately one motherlode ($87,200).

He faces charges of drug trafficking, driving while suspended, and speeding. He’ll be locked up until his first court date.
