There are petty people. Then there are pros. This toll booth worker met pettiness with precision. When a guy tried to pay in hundreds of coins, they returned the favor—with interest, and a slow, smirking final line. Then he took to Reddit to share the glorious story with the rest of us.

Toll booth worker turns coins into karma

The driver rolled up to a toll booth and owed about five bucks. Instead of bills, he handed over a pile of pennies and nickels. “Here you go! Enjoy counting!” he said, laughing to himself.

It’s especially nasty picking on folks in the service industry. They’re just doing their job and can’t escape you. But luckily, this toll booth operator had a comeback ready.

“Enjoy waiting right there until I’m done counting, otherwise I’ll call the state troopers to bring you back,” they replied. Then came the slow, deliberate stacking of coins. A few “accidental” knock-overs meant starting again. The driver pouted the entire time.

No, there was no one in line behind the driver. Apparently, it was a quiet day on the toll plaza.

Eventually, the count was done. The driver had overpaid by 20 cents. The worker handed back the change and said, “Here’s your change. Aren’t you glad you waited?”

Reddit applauds the toll booth takedown

Commenters were quick to praise the toll booth worker’s response. One noted, “‘Aren’t you glad you waited’ is the kind of thing you usually think about after and kick yourself for not getting to use it.” I guess this toll booth operator might count slow, but could think fast. The post got 38,000 upvotes and 755 comments.

The consensus was clear: the driver’s attempt at being clever backfired spectacularly.  This Redditor didn’t just take the coins—he took the guy’s smug attitude and crushed it under perfectly stacked pennies. Next time you want to prove a point, bring cash. Neatly stacked. Facing one direction. You can see the original post embedded below:
