Road rage can escalate pretty quickly. One driver in Chicago took it rather personally when a pedestrian shouted at him to slow down in a neighborhood. The driver then fired eight shots at the man and his dog, but remains at large.

A Chicago driver fires eight shots for being told to slow down

A 50-year-old man was sitting on his porch with his dog around 7:25 AM. The Chicago resident was waiting for his car to warm up when a man in a red vehicle sped through his neighborhood in the 300 block of East 117th Street.

This apparently enraged the driver as he circled back around and fired a gun eight times at the man and his dog. Police officers recovered eight shell casings from the scene.

Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital. He was struck in the abdomen and buttocks. The dog was shot in the shoulder. However, both are currently in good condition.

According to NBC Chicago, no one was being taken into custody. The red vehicle fled the scene and remains at large. Police officers are searching for the assailant. Perhaps neighbors with security cameras captured the incident.

I’ve seen people yell at drivers to slow down my entire life, but the cars seemed to ignore them. But this act is not recommended as it can clearly cause situations to escalate.

Yelling at drivers can be considered harassment, cause a disturbance, or lead to reckless behavior. Engaging with moving traffic is dangerous, and it’s not a civilian’s responsibility to enforce speed limits, as it may lead to dangerous confrontations.

Instead, it’s safer to report speeding vehicles to local police officers. Document the make and model of the car. Also, get the tag information if possible.
