‘Absolutely Stupid’: Driver Arrested After Passengers Filmed Performing Dangerous ‘Car-Surfing’ Stunt in Tunnel
A 23-year-old female driver was arrested after motorists filmed two of her passengers “car-surfing” in a tunnel while traveling 55 mph on a highway. She was charged with two offenses and had her license revoked.
Naturally, because it’s 2026, the woman and her passengers were caught on video performing the dangerous stunt. That video, of course, included the vehicle’s license plate, which police used to arrest her.
The incident took place in the M8 tunnel at Haberfield on a motorway in Sydney, Australia. Signage seen in the video shows a speed limit of 90km/h (~55 mph).
In the footage, a female in the right front passenger seat and a male in the left rear seat can be seen “car-surfing,” pumping their fists, and appearing to talk to one another. Motorists nearby can be heard shouting at the white Hyundai Elantra.
“Yeah, you’re so cool,” one person on the video yells at the “car-surfers,” while another calls them “insane.”
A special task force, set up to catch offenders such as this, investigated the incident
After the New South Wales Police received the footage, a special task force called Strike Force Puma began an investigation. The task force specifically targets high-risk and repeat traffic offenders and those who post videos on social media of poor driving behavior, according to news.com.au.
New South Wales Transport Minister John Graham described the stunt to 9News as “incredibly dangerous.”
“These are constrained roads, people are going at high speed, this is absolutely stupid,” he added.
The driver of the vehicle now faces charges of driving in a manner dangerous and driving with three passengers with seatbelts/restraints not properly fastened. The authorities also suspended her driver’s license for two weeks.
