‘Not For Cops’: Man Gives Virtual Tour Of A Dodge Dart. Um, What’s That Compartment For?
A man’s tongue-in-cheek “virtual tour” of a Dodge Dart is going viral after he points out a mysterious compartment that immediately sends his imagination spiraling.
On Feb. 10, a man (@AutoPartsCityInc) posted a Facebook reel featuring an unusual compartment that he cheekily suggests would be great for drug dealers.
“Not for cops,” he writes on the video’s text overlay.
The clip has garnered over 50,000 views as of Thursday.
What made the Dodge Dart’s Storage Compartment Stand Out?
According to the man, a small tag on the seat reveals what he jokingly calls a “secret drug dealer storage compartment” hidden beneath the passenger seat. He admits he’d never seen anything like it on another vehicle, which only fuels his confusion.
“It’s got a secret drug dealer storage compartment under the passenger seat,” he says. “I had no idea.”
The man questions its purpose, noting that the car already has a glove box and other storage areas. This makes the under-seat compartment feel oddly specific.
“In all honesty, does anybody know why this actually exists?” he asks. “Like, what is the point of it?”
When we reached out to Auto Parts City, Inc., he clarified that this is not the first time he has seen a secret compartment. “Many cars have secret compartments, Nissan Quest dashboard, Ford C-Max rear passenger floor … others too,” he told MotorBiscuit.
What is the Purpose of This Compartment?
The “secret” space under the front passenger seat in the 2013 Dodge Dart is a front passenger seat storage bin. This was an optional little cubby that Chrysler offered as a low-key convenience feature.
According to Dodge’s own owner’s manual, the seat includes this storage area to hold small items, provided it doesn’t interfere with the weight sensors or airbag system when shut.
Hidden storage isn’t even that rare in cars. Many vehicles, especially crossovers and utility models, hide bins under floors, inside consoles, or beneath seats to help owners keep gear out of sight or organized. From under-floor cargo bins in SUVs to discrete cubbies beneath seat cushions, automakers have long used every inch of interior space they can find.
Are Drug Dealers Known to Use Any Particular Vehicle?
While this storage compartment might have theoretical use to a drug dealer, there is no evidence that this feature is used for those purposes. This is especially true given that it’s not a particularly unique feature and it is found in other models.
Law enforcement agencies have long noted that drug traffickers don’t rely on one specific model. That said, they do tend to favor unremarkable, reliable cars that blend in.
Police departments commonly cite sedans like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Chevrolet Impala because they’re everywhere, inexpensive to maintain, and don’t attract attention.
