Residents in Massachusetts just want answers. But a delivery of unmarked SUVs to the Boston ICE regional facility only raises safety concerns. But the Department of Homeland Security refuses to discuss future or potential operations.

24 ICE SUVS are delivered in Boston, increasing anxiety

Local officers and advocacy groups in Massachusetts just want to know about potential changes in federal immigration policy in the state. But the delivery of 24 unmarked SUVs to the Boston ICE regional facility only stirs up confusion.

A video captures a truck delivering the vehicles to a field office and is spreading across social media platforms. The Department of Homeland Security refuses to address whether an increase in operations is imminent. However, now there’s more options for drivers in the state.

According to Newsweek, despite not having confirmation from federal authorities, the delivery is causing uncertainty. The additional cars at the facility raises questions over how resources are being allocated and if enforcement capacity is increasing.

Governor Maura Healey shares, “We already have ICE in Massachusetts. People are terrified. They’re scared to death, so they aren’t going to school, work, or appointments.” There’s a sense of emergency and terror.

Officials in Burlington haven’t received official notice from ICE or federal authorities about an imminent change in activity related to the SUV delivery.

A DHS spokesperson said, “We do not discuss future or potential operations. Every day, DHS enforces the laws of the nation across the country.”

However, the vehicles could be related to routine logistical fleet updates. But the problem is that it’s unclear if federal immigration operations are expanding in the area.
