A woman in Detroit needs a refund from a dealership. However, after secretly adding $3,500 to her bill in hidden fees, the business suddenly closed. Apparently, other drivers have been scammed by the same company.

Detroit dealership adds $3,500 to woman’s bill, then closes

64-year-old Penny Walsh is stuck with an extra $3,500 on her auto loan. She was down with her 17-year-old car and went to Wixom Motors for a new vehicle.

After five hours of test drives, she settled on a Kia Soul. The dealership handed her keys but didn’t provide paperwork. She returned later to get the documents and noticed that they added a $3,445 warranty and insurance policy she didn’t want.

Walsh acknowledged verbally denying the policy, but she signed the paperwork. She made calls and sent emails to try and get a refund and didn’t hear anything for weeks. However, she finally got an email claiming the money would be refunded.

But then nothing happened, and she tried contacting the dealership again for weeks. The dealership’s number leads to a message that says, “We’re sorry, you have reached a number that has been disconnected or currently is not in service.”

According to Click on Detroit, the website is gone, too. The owner of the business claims it went bankrupt, and no one included him in the matter. Also, Wixom Motors has four similar complaints filed with the state.

The Michigan State Department shares that Wixmon Motors was on OIS probation due to other complaints. Walsh’s warranty was never canceled, adding a significant amount to the 7% finance portion of the auto loan.
