‘No engine light is a problem’ Dead Toyota 4Runner surprises mechanics
One driver was in for a bad day when their Toyota 4Runner suddenly died. It just shut down while going down the road. So, he took it to the shop. Then, mechanics were shocked by what they discovered under the hood.
Mechanics discover a surprising reason for dead Toyota 4Runner
While the Toyota 4Runner has a reputation for lasting forever, it wasn’t too much of a surprise for a model from 2001 with 300,000 miles on the odometer to need a little work.
That SUV has been put through the paces! But the driver said he was going down the road, and his SUV just randomly shut down. There was no warning, and he assumed the timing belt broke.
But according to a TikTok video by @royaltyautoservice, that wasn’t the problem. The engine was spinning fine. One of the first problems they noticed was that when turning the key on, there was no check engine light illuminated on the dashboard.
However, that light is supposed to appear when a car is turned on as a simple bulb test. If it’s not there, then you could have an engine control module issue. Upon further investigation, they found a blown fuse.
What blew the fuse? A fuse saver and wire diagram found that the solenoids and oxygen sensor were the most likely culprits, but the solenoids were fine. But it started with the fuse saver connected.
They went under the 4Runner to look at the air sensor and found a cable that was pushed against the driveshaft. The cable was split, and wires were poking out.
The driver probably hit something that pushed the bracket that holds the cable back against the driveshaft, and it split. You can see where the sensor cable is supposed to be held in place. So, the driver needs wiring work done. Luckily, he didn’t need any expensive parts replaced.
