A driver in Thurston County, Washington, with no license plates on his BMW, thought he could outrun the law earlier this week. He was mistaken.

Dashcam video captured a police chase in which the BMW driver reached speeds over 150 mph. Unfortunately for him, you can’t outrun a spike strip.

According to Sheriff Derek Sanders, a deputy with a K9 dog spotted a “recklessly driven BMW” doing donuts and drifting out of a parking lot. When the officer attempted to pull him over, the BMW driver blew through a red light, and the chase was on, The Olympian reported.

Reaching speeds over 150 miles per hour, the BMW driver, who has a suspended license, began pulling away from the deputy. What the suspect didn’t realize was that another deputy had set up a spike strip ahead of him.

Tires now punctured, the BMW driver pulled over to the side of the road, put his hands out of the driver’s side window, and surrendered. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said the driver admitted seeing the K-9 unit parked across the street when he removed the BMW’s license plates and sped off out of the parking lot, sparking the chase.

Just a half-hour earlier…

The BMW chase was the second pursuit the deputy had been involved in that night. About half an hour earlier, the same deputy who deployed the spike strip chased down two people suspected of theft.

In that case, dash camera footage shows the deputy deploying a grappler to end the chase. A grappler is a device that police install on the front of their cruiser. The system deploys a high-strength net to snare a fleeing car’s rear tire to safely terminate high-speed vehicle pursuits.

Both occupants of the vehicle had active warrants for their arrest. They ranged from theft to assault, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
