Two Maryland police cruisers were vandalized during a street takeover. In one case, an officer was inside his vehicle when it happened. Dash cam video from inside one of the Montgomery County Police cruisers shows the suspects damaging the cruisers.

On February 22, at approximately 12:39 a.m., it was reported to police that a sizable contingent of cars engaged in street takeover activity. The takeover, according to Montgomery County Police, had migrated from Prince George’s County toward the downtown Silver Spring central business district.

The majority of the intersections the suspects were heading toward in Silver Spring were closed by Montgomery County Police officers. The cars then gathered at the crossroads of East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue. Once there, drivers did donuts and obstructed traffic on the road.

While the street takeover continued, several individuals exited their vehicles and stood in the intersection, blocking officers’ access. Two marked Montgomery County Police cruisers sustained damage during the activity.

In one incident, the windshield and rear window were damaged while an officer was inside the car. None of the officers were injured.

The Maryland State Police would eventually arrive to help clear the area. Prior to the Montgomery County incident, Prince George’s County Police and Maryland State Police conducted traffic stops, resulting in the recovery of three handguns.
