Self-driving cars are on the rise, with several automakers offering their version of semi-autonomous technology. General Motors has Super Cruise, Ford has Blue Cruise (previously Co-Pilot360). Both of those use radars, map data, a wide array of sensors, cameras, and in-cabin cameras to operate. And while they’re advanced, they’re not fully autonomous.

Tesla’s name for their tech is “Full self-driving,” but don’t be fooled—no Tesla vehicle is fully autonomous. It’s a level 2 driver-assistance system, so the driver has to pay attention or be ready to take control should the software malfunction or misinterpret live data.

Luke Perrie, a Cybertruck owner, took to Facebook after he dealt with an FSD malfunction twice. Once while pulling a trailer, and the other instance was without one. He’d only had the truck for two months, and felt suddenly afraid of it.

“Twice in the last week (once with a trailer on and once without) – FSD has taken me straight across a double yellow into oncoming traffic,” Perrie posted in a Cybertruck owner’s Facebook group. “Is anyone else experiencing this lately? I went from FSD, which was the best thing ever for me. I relaxed, but now I watch it like a hawk with my hands on the wheel.”

Other Cybertruck owners reported the same thing

Other owners were quick to chime in with their experiences with an FSD mishap. One said, despite the most recent update, their truck swerved into the median to avoid paint spots on the road. In addition, they’d been over that road a hundred times.

Someone else wrote their truck stays in its lane, but at the very edge of it. They added that they “fear for the other drivers who can’t stay in their own lane.”

Another had it happen a little too close to home. It ventured into the oncoming lane for about three or four feet and corrected itself.

A Cybertruck owner said their FSD was “unusable” because of how poorly the truck stayed centered in designated lanes. Even after recalibrating everything, it can’t stay centered.

However, FSD has always had minor issues

Several Reddit and Cybertruck Owner’s Forum posters report lane-keeping issues, poor reactions to uneven road surfaces, and light or sign interpretations, even after the most recent update.

Every Cybertruck owner who commented mentioned having to take the week and regain control to feel safe.

As with all technology, though, there’s likely to be a fix. It’s constantly being researched and analyzed.
