Ford SUV recall due to cracked fuel injectors
Back in 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into certain Ford SUVs. Drivers complained that repairs related to cracked fuel injectors didn’t correct the issue.
The NHTSA learned that the fuel injectors weren’t repaired or replaced. The problem was related to high pressure in the fuel injectors causing them to crack. As a result, fuel vapors and gas could leak onto hot engine components, increasing the risk of engine fires.
The correct the problem, Ford dealers updated engine control software designed to detect a pressure drop in the fuel rails, alert drivers, decrease engine output, and lower temperatures of potential ignition sources in the engine compartments.
Plus, tubes were installed in the engine’s cylinder head drain holes to redirect leaking fuel past hot surfaces and onto the roadways.
The new recall involves 2021 – 2024 Ford Bronco Sport models and 2020 – 2022 Ford Escape models. Roughly 694,271 models are equipped with the 1.5-liter engine.
Owners at risk should have been notified via mail. But you can see if your Ford SUV is involved by using the NHTSA VIN search tool. This time, Ford is replacing the fuel injectors at no cost to owners.
